I’m Tamara Sylvan, the proud owner of BCPR Smart.

I look forward to sharing my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.

I am a full-time professional firefighter, and in my initial years of service, I had witnessed many preventable deaths and accidents while on-call. These incidents occurred as the bystanders or onlookers did not know how to perform CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) or first aid.

While these circumstances were heartbreaking and unfortunate, they inspired me to launch an initiative where I could teach people how to prevent accidents and how to perform high-quality CPR on babies, kids, and adults. I also wanted to show people how to use an AED (automated external defibrillator).

Today, I’ve completed twenty years of service as a firefighter, ten years as a Red Cross instructor, and sixteen years of teaching first aid and CPR.

I absolutely love teaching, and I especially love hearing the stories that encouraged participants to join my classes. I want to know why people take CPR and First Aid classes so that I can effectively teach them the skills they need to know to preserve the lives of loved ones and even strangers. I also love meeting new people every day, and this business allows me the freedom to do so.

When I teach a class, my team and I aim to make everyone feel that they have received something above and beyond what they have paid for. We want them to feel confident that they could act in an emergency with a loved one, co-worker, or stranger. My clients are my number one priority, and when they feel good after my class, I am rewarded with a feeling of great joy!

During each class, we do not force clients to act in situations of life and death. We encourage them to get involved based on their comfort. That way, in the event of an emergency, they will be able to try their best and act according to their skill and comfort level.

As an instructor, my motto is, to be honest, maintain integrity, and be professional. In addition to this, I strive to be friendly, outgoing, and non-judgmental to ensure my clients feel comfortable. I want everyone to enjoy the learning process and to see value in it. My classes are interactive, engaging, and all about the participants and what they want to learn. I refuse to blab on for hours without taking a breath while standing in front of a PowerPoint presentation.

I feel extremely satisfied when my clients call me and tell me that they saved a life because they took my class. It motivates me to keep doing what I do to save more lives.

When I am not saving lives or teaching others how to, I focus on completing my Bachelor of Adult Education. Teaching is something I really enjoy, and I would like to see how far I can advance in this field. Apart from improving my teaching skills, I also love to exercise and spend time with my family during my days off. I even volunteer my time to The Toronto Firefighters Toy Drive.

A personal cause that I strongly support is building a sense of responsibility towards others. I feel that it is every human’s responsibility to help others to the best of their ability. We could use a lot more kindness in this world! I also believe that every parent should know how to perform CPR to protect their children from choking incidents.

I have enjoyed sharing my story about the things which matter to me and how they influence the way I do business.

If you or someone you know could benefit from our CPR and first aid training in Ajax, ON, I invite you to get in touch. Please visit our website at www.bcprsmart.com.
